Vision:

Our vision is to create a society which is dementia friendly, dementia literate where a person with dementia can live with dignity and honour, which he/she truly deserves.

To provide affordable, essential and easily accessible quality care and support to all those who have been affected by dementia

To impart training to improve quality of life and care of people with dementia

To establish counseling services and family support groups.

To bring a positive transformation in dementia care services.

To build up a system where all those affected by dementia have access to quality care and support they need.

To improve public and professional awareness about dementia.

To promote early diagnosis and intervention.

Objectives:

To give support, succor, help and information to families of persons affected by dementia.
To initiate and encourage formation of chapters of society, support groups and dementia care centres throughout India.
To secure from Government and non-government sources, better facilities for the care of those affected by dementia.
To undertake and support research into the causes, prevalence and other aspects of dementia.
To bring to the attention of various Governmental agencies the needs of people with dementia especially the need to have dementia recognised as a disability of the elderly, so that they are placed on par with people suffering from other handicaps and resources are reallocated in a more equitable manner.
To encourage training of health personnel in geriatric care and dementia.
To educate general public about dementia through all available media.
To develop ‘helplines’ to those who have to care for people with dementia by setting up self-help groups and by linking and creating networks of such support services to make them more productive and economical and to integrate them with the social and cultural milieu of India.
To arrange and conduct training programmes for caregivers and to organize seminars, medical camps and relief work.
To provide incentive and encouragement to other voluntary associations and individuals engaged in research in Alzheimer’s and Related disorders and in the care and management of people with dementia.
To collaborate with various national, state and local governmental agencies concerned, especially health and welfare departments, non-governmental organizations, Alzheimer’s Disease International, World health organization and other International agencies in the pursuit of all or any of the above objectives and, further, promote exchange of medical and research personnel between institutions.
To provide guidance in legal matters to people with dementia and their families and to intervene on their behalf wherever or whenever necessary or feasible.
To do all such things incidental or conducive to the attainment of the above objectives or any one of them.

Organisation:

ARDSI has been registered under the Travancore Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable societies Registration act XII, 1955 in 1993 (Reg. No. S.N. ER 243/93). ARDSI is the first Afro-Asian organization to receive full membership with Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI) UK, a federation of national associations from 77 member countries from all over the world, which has an official relationship with the World Health organization (WHO). As a result of the dedicated work of ARDSI’s team of volunteers, the organization has been able to spread its activities across the country. At present ARDSI has Chapters in New Delhi, Mumbai, Greater Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore, Goa, Coimbatore, Calicut, Cochin, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta and Trivandrum, along with support groups attached to the Chapters.
